Morning Sickness Remedies

So sorry I haven’t posted anything in a week.  Last weekend I caught some kind of nasty virus and spent the weekend on the couch and the week recovering.  My poor husband had to carry the parenting/housekeeping torch. Again.  It was totally a flashback to the first trimester when morning, um, all day sickness ruled my schedule.

Which brings me to my post today.  Morning sickness remedies! I used these tips that I have collected from friends and reading and this round of morning sickness was SO MUCH BETTER than my last one.  I still had it – don’t get me wrong.  BUT I was able to work every single day and I only lost my cookies in one parking lot.  Triumph.

Ok, so lets get down to business.  My first remedy is magnesium.  Americans are already deficient in it and pregnancy decreases your ability to process it even more. Because this lovely supplement deserves it’s own post – you can read it here.

My second supplement is Vitamin B.  This can help with the nausea.  My whole life I’ve had a constant love/hate relationship with this little vitamin.  I am deficient in it – which means I need it.  However, the smell you guys.  The SMELL.  It literally makes me sick.  So I compromised.  What I am about to tell you is not the best vitamin B or even the best form.  This is just the ONLY way I can get a vitamin B supplement in my body.  And since some is better than none, this beaut is what I take.

So at this point I am loading up on the magnesium and vitamin B (contact your healthcare provider before taking anything and for dosage) but I am still having some rough mornings.  One morning I remembered to take my fish oil, swallowed it without a second thought and went about my day.

By the end of the day I noticed that it had gone much better as far as the nausea/vomiting went.  I thought back and the ONLY thing I had changed was taking that pill.  So of course – I kept taking it.  The other plus is – this is great for baby’s brain development.  So even if it was in my head that it helped with morning sickness at least baby is getting some benefit.

By this point, I feel like everything is mostly under control.  Did I mention that I was able to work every single day????  Ok, good.  As you can see I am pretty impressed with that.  J  I WAS still suffering from some sneak attacks, which brings me to my final trick.  Preggie pop drops.  Little drops of essential oils (and I think some sugar).  And so, my friends, the sneak attacks were kicked in the booty.

And there you have it – the crazy blend of supplements that worked to keep my morning sickness under control.  Fortunately, the first trimester has come and gone – PRAISE THE LORD!!!  Morning sickness is no longer an issue but I am still continuing with magnesium and fish oil – for muscle cramps and baby’s brain.

What are some of your tried and true remedies?!
