The BEST Elderberry Syrup

I made a promise to you long ago that if I ever found the magic recipe for our family that I would give it to you.  I am happy to announce that that day has come.  Folks, this stuff is delicious.  AND it gives you all the goodness of elderberry.  It also passed the three year old test and the husband test.  And let me tell you, those two were HARD to please on this elderberry journey.  So without further ado, I give you the BEST elderberry syrup.

First, elderberries.  These guys are full of flavonoids which can boost your body's immune system.  Elderberries have been used as a fold remedy all over the world for many things - to fight virus' and bacterial infections, lower cholesterol, improve vision and improve heart health.

Next, rose hips. Rose hips are packed full of vitamin C, making these a valuable addition to your syrup.

Raspberries. Not only do they add the most delicious flavor to your syrup, raspberries are also full of vitamin C and other antioxidants.

Also, honey.  When eaten raw, honey can help with allergies, is full of antioxidants and minerals, can promote good bacteria in the gut, and can block free radicals.
And there you have it - the best elderberry syrup!

1 cup elderberries
2 TBSP rose hips
1 1/3 cup of raspberries
4 cups of water
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup honey

Simmer elderberries, raspberries, water and rose hips for 30-45 minutes.

I mash it up with a potato masher to really squish the juice out.

After it is done simmering, pour through a cheesecloth.  Add vanilla and honey and stir til mixed thoroughly.  Pour into a bottle with a lid (I use these) and keep refrigerated.

Enjoy!
